1. Brief history of TV in the UK and abroad.

The first official television broadcast to the public in the uk was in 1955. In 1936 people were able to get Analogue terrestrial television. Analogue terrestrial TV was free and unlike previous Television, you could now get up to 6 channels instead of the basic 3. 2 years later in 1938 Analogue cable TV was launched in Bristol and Kingston upon Hill, it was distributed on the same 405 line service as Analogue terrestrial, cable TV is a system which provides television to people by using radio requencies transmitted through opitcal fibres. In 1998 Ondigital, later re-branded as ITV, launched a pay TV digital terrestrial service. Digital TV is when you recieve TV through an aerial, Digital TV also uses less broadcast space which means that, there will be more room for other services like wireless broadband, local TV and High Definition Television. In 1939 BBC television stopped because of the world war 2, most households listened to the radio. In the UK we use PAL, other countries use NTSC as there standard such as north america and japan, PAL has better resolution than NTSC as it uses 576 lines of resolution.  NTSC only uses 525 lines.

In 1930 John Baird introduced the first commercial television, In 1938 the television was the same price as a small car, only 5,000 televisions were sold as they were so expensive. 1954 IBM launched the first commercial computer. In time video technology has changed drastically, not just the camera's themselves, but the way in which we save and store our footage. Now day we can use SD cards, which are quick and easy when it comes to log and capturing, but previously they used video tapes, not DV tapes, but even older tapes which didn't have a huge amount of storage on.

2. How has the digital world changed the way we consume and create TV?

Now days there are many different ways of wathing digital TV, even whilst you're on the move! They now make phones which have internet access, which allow you to watching videos on youtube, iplayer, 4OD etc. Some phones, such as iphones, have 3G which is free wifi. You can also buy ipads which have wifi connection, or laptops with a wifi connector, so you could be sitting on a train for example and catch up on programmes you have missed online. The main advantage of digital cameras are that you don't have to rolla film each time like a film/video camera, with the digital camera you simply just click a button and transfer onto your computer. Digital cameras also have a huge storage space, they can hold up to 10,000 photos depending on the size of the memory card, this completely outweighs the storage on a film roll. Digital cameras also have face face detection, which caputres the face and stops the picture going blury. Another advantage of digital cameras are that now days they come built in with video recording, which definatley saves time. Over the years editing has changed drastically over the years. Since digital cameras came along editing as become easier as it's easier to upload your footage. Also the editing software has changed over the years, now days we have Final cut which is industry standard, where as previously they only had lower equiped software such as windows movie makers or different flat bed machines.

3. Have online videos lowered the standards of TV production? now days videos aren't just made professional, there's also domestic videos made by people themselves at home or where ever using hand held cameras, even webcams, which they upload onto the internet. In 2005 youtube started up and recieved it's first video. Youtube is hugely popular with people uploading there videos they have made. Now days youtube is a huge starting point for many people, singers, actors, aspiring tv presenters, there has been many people upload there videos which they've just made in there bedroom with low tech equipment and then they have been spotted online and given a job. The software used to edit many of these videos is just windows movie maker or another low standard editing software, the trend of these videos are now being used my professional directors, for example cloverfield is mostly all filmed with a handheld camera.  As time has gone on it's becoming more and more popular using footage which looks domestic. We now have websites like iplayer or 4od which is were you can go to catch up on programmes that you've missed, by having these websites has changed the ratings of TV shows as people now they can watch it else where after.
